What changed after we left the building

Engagements with owner-managed firms in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban, described plainly: what we found, what we tidied up, and what the team kept running once the retainer ended. No projections, no invented figures.

What these results do and do not claim

A results page invites overstatement, so it is worth being plain about the boundaries. The notes below define how we describe an engagement, what counts as a finished piece of work, and where our responsibility stops. They apply to every case summary on this page.

Diagnostic versus retainer

A two-week diagnostic ends with findings, a process map, and a written list of what needs fixing. It does not include implementation. Retainer work is where documents get rebuilt, spreadsheets get consolidated, and a staff member gets trained to run the routine. We label each case by which of the two it was.

No audits, no statutory sign-off

We are not auditors and we do not issue opinions, certificates, or statutory confirmations. Where a case mentions an audit or a bank review, the outcome belongs to the client and their accountant. Our part was preparing the records, the reporting pack, and the paper trail beforehand.

Client names and figures

Most owner-managed clients prefer not to be named, and we do not publish revenue, headcount changes, or savings estimates we cannot verify. Case summaries describe the scope, the sector, the city, and the state of the records at handover. Anything withheld is withheld at the client's request.

POPIA and health and safety files

Our POPIA work covers records handling: who may access personnel and supplier files, retention periods, and what happens when someone leaves. Health and safety support is limited to keeping the file current and complete. Neither is legal advice, and neither replaces your appointed compliance officer or safety representative.

Who these engagements suit

Firms of roughly 15 to 80 staff in light manufacturing, logistics, and professional services, usually across Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban. Below that size the overhead of a retainer rarely pays off; well above it, the work tends to need a full internal operations function rather than an outside advisor.

What handover means

Every retainer ends with a written procedure and a named person inside the business who can run it. If that person leaves or the routine lapses within a few months, the results on this page no longer describe the current state. We say so rather than let an old summary stand in for present conditions.

What clients say after the retainer ends

These are drawn from engagements across Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban. We asked clients to describe what changed in daily operations, not how they felt about the process. The answers below are edited for length only.

"We had three versions of every supplier contract and no idea which one was signed. The two-week diagnostic sorted that out first. By the time the retainer started, our admin could find any agreement in under a minute, and the auditor stopped asking for the same documents twice."
Operations director, light manufacturing, 52 staff, Germiston
"POPIA felt like something for the lawyers until we mapped who actually opens the personnel files. Once that was written down, the rest followed. Our workshop supervisor now knows exactly what he can and cannot pull from the cabinet, and we stopped guessing about retention periods."
Managing member, logistics firm, 31 staff, Pinetown
"The monthly pack used to take our bookkeeper four days and still came back with queries. Vare cut it down, wrote a procedure, and trained one of our juniors to run it. It now goes out on the third working day, and the bank has not come back with a follow-up question since."
Owner, professional services practice, 18 staff, Cape Town
"Our health and safety file had not been touched in two years. They rebuilt it, set a review rhythm, and sat in on two ops meetings so the handover actually stuck. Nobody had to chase me for signatures after that."
Plant manager, packaging supplier, 64 staff, Johannesburg South
